FORT WORTH, Texas – Playing in its first conference match of 2018, the Oklahoma volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to TCU on Wednesday night inside The Rickel.
The Horned Frogs won in straight sets: 25-23, 25-18, 25-20. Overall, the Sooners edged the Horned Frogs in hitting percentage by a .315 to .276 clip and finished with 44 kills, just one fewer than TCU.
Sophomore defensive specialist Keyton Kinley led the match with 17 digs. Senior outside hitter Alyssa Enneking paced Oklahoma with 12 kills while sophomore setter Kylee McLaughlin totaled a team-high 35 assists.
The match took a competitive start as the first frame saw eight ties and three lead changes. Although the Sooners led at 12-8, the Horned Frogs took a timeout and scored four straight to knot the period at 12. The two teams would continue trading points throughout the frame before TCU took a 23-21 lead late. After the Sooners tied it at 23-23, consecutive TCU points gave the horned Frogs a 1-0 lead in the match.
After another close beginning in the second frame, the Horned Frogs used a 4-0 run to establish an 11-8 lead. They would carry that advantage throughout the period, earning a 25-18 victory that gave them a two-set lead.
TCU's momentum continued into the final frame as it jumped out to a 10-3 lead. Oklahoma got within three at 18-15, forcing a Horned Frog timeout. TCU earned set point at 24-17, and although OU won three straight points, the Horned Frogs closed it out with a kill.
