NORMAN – Oklahoma baseball begins preparations for the 2019 season Sunday with the opening of fall workouts at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
OU, under the direction of second-year head coach Skip Johnson, returns 16 players from the 2018 team that compiled a 38-25 record (14-10 Big 12) and advanced to the final round of the Tallahassee Regional. Oklahoma welcomes 24 newcomers to the roster, as the Sooners will look to reach the NCAA postseason for the third straight year in 2019.
The incoming class includes 16 freshmen and eight transfers, representing 12 states and Ontario. Twelve of the new Sooners hail from Oklahoma, with 11 more coming from Texas and five from Kansas.
The Sooners will play a pair of exhibition games in the next month, hosting 2018 national runner-up Arkansas on Sept. 22 at noon and Dallas Baptist on Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
Fans holding a ticket to OU's football game against Army on Sept. 22 will receive free admission to the baseball contest. Fans without a football ticket can gain admission to baseball for $5. For the Sooners' scrimmage against Dallas Baptist, admission will be $5 for all.
Fall workouts will run through the end of October. All OU fall practices take place at L. Dale Mitchell Park and are open to the public.
