NORMAN — University of Oklahoma Head Wrestling Coach Lou Rosselli and Vice President and Director of Athletics Joe Castiglione announced the 2018-19 OU wrestling schedule Monday.
“I think our schedule has a good balance of competition,” said third-year head coach Lou Rosselli. “We look forward to our Big 12 schedule as well as the Cliff Keen Invitational and the Virginia Duals.”
The Sooners will hold the annual Red-White Scrimmage on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. at McCasland Field House. OU officially kicks off the season with a trio of tournaments, beginning with the Michigan State Open in East Lansing, Mich., Nov. 3. The team then travels to the Journeyman Open on Nov. 11 in Troy, N.Y., followed by the Cliff Keen Vegas Open in Las Vegas, Nev., Nov. 30-Dec. 1.
OU is slated to open home action on Dec. 7, when the Sooners will host South Dakota State. This season's Bedlam match will take place in Stillwater on Dec. 9.
The Sooners are set for another road dual with Appalachian State on Dec. 16 before returning to Norman to host West Virginia on Jan. 4.
Oklahoma will host Pitt on Jan. 6 in a neutral site dual held at Tuttle High School in Tuttle, Okla.
OU travels to the Virginia Duals that will take place Jan. 11-12 before resuming Big 12 action with an Iowa road swing, taking on Iowa State on Jan. 25 and Northern Iowa on Jan. 27.
Oklahoma then returns to McCasland Fieldhouse to host Lehigh on Feb. 2 before a trio of road matches at Edinboro (Feb. 9), Air Force (Feb. 15) and Fresno State (Feb. 17). The Sooners wrap up the regular season at home with North Dakota State on Feb. 24.
The Big 12 Championships are slated for March 9-10 in Tulsa, followed by the 2018 NCAA Wrestling Championships from March 21-23 in Pittsburgh, Pa.
OU enters the season tied for 39th in WIN Magazine's preseason rankings, and will face a trio of top-25 opponents during the regular season: Oklahoma State (3), Lehigh (9) and South Dakota State (16).
Additionally, the Sooners' slate includes ranked teams Iowa State (26), North Dakota State (T-35), Fresno State (45), Pitt (46), Appalachian State (T-52) and West Virginia (T-52).
Oklahoma returns eight starters from the 2017-18 season including NCAA qualifiers Christian Moody and Davion Jeffries. Three Sooners enter the season ranked in WIN magazine's top 20 in their respective weight classes: Moody is No. 20 at 125 lbs; Jeffries clocks in at No. 19 at 149 lbs; and graduate transfer Kayne MacCallum is No. 20 in the 184 lbs weight class.
