NORMAN – Oklahoma wrestling's Dom Demas has been named Big 12 Wrestler of the week, the conference announced Monday.
Wrestling at 141 pounds, Demas finished the weekend undefeated (3-0) at the Journeyman MyHouse Collegiate Classic to win his pool and earn the Hammer Award for most outstanding wrestler.
Demas won decisions in the first two rounds, defeating Wyoming's Sam Turner 4-2 and Kyle Shoop of Lock Haven 11-4. Demas finished off the day by pinning InterMat No. 15/FloWrestling No. 14 Nate Limmex of Purdue in just 1:31.
With that win by fall, Demas has recorded three pins this season through just two weekends of competition. The newcomer has also won his last six matches straight dating back to OU's first competition, the Michigan State Open on Nov. 3, where he took fourth in his weight class.
This is the first career honor for Demas, who is a redshirt freshman. The award is OU's first conference accolade since Christian Moody was named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week in January 2018.
Demas and the Sooners return to the mat Nov. 30 – Dec. 1 for the Cliff Keen Vegas Invitational.
