Baseball, Softball Halloween Game Tuesday Night

October 29, 2018 | Baseball, Softball

NORMAN – The University of Oklahoma baseball and softball programs are teaming up to host a Halloween Game at Marita Hynes Field on Tuesday, October 30 at 6:30 p.m. The Sooner programs launched a fundraising campaign with the Vs. Cancer Foundation on Oct. 9 to support The Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center.

The 2018 Halloween Game will start at 6:30 p.m. with gates opening at 5:30. Admission is free and all fans are encouraged to attend in costume; additional information on costumes is available below. Kids attending the game in costume will have the opportunity to trick-or-treat at the field and meet the OU student-athletes from both teams. All children in attendance will be welcomed on to the field for a post-game group photo opportunity. Additionally, there will be free face painting at the event.

The game will also be aired via the Oklahoma Athletics Facebook and Twitter pages and SoonerSports.tv

Through Monday, the baseball and softball teams have combined to raise more than $11,000 in online donations. Additional donations can be made online through the baseball and softball Vs. Cancer pages.

The game will be a five-inning contest between baseball and softball followed by a home run derby. Five players from each team will get 10 swings. For each home run hit, the Landers Auto Group will donate $50 to OU Children's.

Overall, Oklahoma baseball and softball have raised more than $97,000 for Vs. Cancer and OU Children's since 2014. OU baseball teamed with Vs. Cancer in its “Shave for the Brave” campaign from 2014-16, raising more than $80,000 to benefit the foundation's research to eliminate childhood cancers and the OU Children's Hospital.

Additional information regarding the Vs. Cancer Foundation and The Children's Hospital is available on the organizations' websites.

This marks the second straight year and third overall that the Sooner sluggers have hosted a joint Halloween Game. The game originated in 2013 at baseball's L. Dale Mitchell Park and evolved with the inclusion of OU softball, which hosted the game in 2015 and 2017.

Additional Costume Information

Fans in costume must be able to remove any mask, hood, helmet, or any other element of the costume that obscures the face prior to security screening. Real or realistic-looking weapons are prohibited. Costumes should be family appropriate and without offensive language or content.

OU Athletics introduced a clear bag policy and walk-through metal detectors at all home events this year, including the Halloween Game. More information can be found here.
