NORMAN — Behind a perfect 5-0 record at the Virginia Duals, Oklahoma wrestler Christian Moody was named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Competing at 125 pounds, the redshirt sophomore recorded his first win by fall of the season at the event, pinning No. 20 Lock Haven's Josiah Kline in 1:57. Moody also claimed an upset win on the weekend, downing No. 12 Jay Schwarm of Northern Iowa in an 8-4 decision.
The Sooner secured an undefeated weekend with wins over Geo Barzona (Bucknell), Sean Williams (Fresno State) and Kyle Norstrem (Virginia Tech) by decisions. Additionally, Moody recorded nine takedowns over his five matches while giving up just one takedown throughout the event.
Moody moved to 17-8 on the season, including a 9-2 record in dual competition, and is currently ranked No. 17 by InterMat. The conference honor marks the second of Moody's career and the second this season for the Sooners, with Yoanse Mejias earning the award on Nov. 15.
Moody and the Sooners return home on Jan. 21 to take on Northern Colorado at 2:45 p.m. CT. The dual will be held at Lloyd Noble Center in conjunction with OU women's gymnastics as a part of the Beauty and the Beast meet. Fans can purchase tickets online or by calling the OU Athletics Ticket Office at (405) 325-2424.
