NORMAN – Oklahoma head wrestling coach Lou Rosselli was named the 2016 Terry McCann National Freestyle Coach of the Year, USA Wrestling announced at the 2017 World Team Trials in Lincoln, Neb.

Rosselli, who served as a volunteer coach for the United States Olympic Freestyle Team in the 2016 Rio Games, oversaw 97 kg gold medalist Kyle Snyder, the youngest Olympic champion in U.S. wrestling history, as well as bronze medalist J'Den Cox (86 kg).

“I am honored to be selected for the Terry McCann Freestyle Coach of the Year award,” Rosselli said. “The Rio Olympic Games was a great experience and I was glad to be a part of the success the United States had.”

The award is named after wrestling legend Terry McCann, a two-time NCAA Champion in 1955 and 1956 and a three-time Big Ten Champion at the University of Iowa. McCann won a gold medal in freestyle wrestling at the 1960 Rome Olympics. McCann also served as USA Wrestling President.

The honor marks the third for Rosselli, who also received the prestigious award in 2007 and 2013.
