NORMAN – University of Oklahoma assistant wrestling coach Keith Gavin was officially announced as the head coach at the University of Pittsburgh on Friday.

Gavin's hiring marks a return to his alma mater, as he wrestled for the Panthers from 2004-2008 and was the 2008 NCAA champion at 174 pounds.

“I really enjoyed my time here at OU,” Gavin said. “I had the opportunity to work with some great people and learned quite a bit in such a short amount of time. I hope to take the things I've learned here and implement them into my new role as head coach.”

Gavin spent the past season with the Sooners after being named an assistant for first-year head coach Lou Rosselli. The 2016-17 squad tallied an 11-6 record in his only season in Norman.

“We loved having Keith here at OU,” Rosselli said. “He did a great job here and will be missed. He loves Pittsburgh and he will be a great addition for Pitt's program.”
