NORMAN – Oklahoma wrestler Yoanse Mejias was named the Big 12 Co-Wrestler of the Week after two impressive road wins, the conference announced Monday.
The junior, who holds an 8-2 record on the season, registered a 5-3 decision over South Dakota State's Luke Zilverberg before securing a win by fall in 2:03 over No. 8 Bryce Steiert to help push No. 15 OU past No. 18 Northern Iowa, 27-13, on Sunday afternoon in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The win marked his third over a ranked opponent this season, with all three coming over a higher-ranked opponent. The conference honor is the first of his career and the third this season for the Sooners, as redshirt senior Clark Glass earned recognition on Dec. 5, and redshirt freshman Christian Moody was named wrestler of the week on Jan. 9.
Mejias and the Sooners return to McCasland Field House on Friday, Feb. 10 at noon for a Big 12 contest with Wyoming.
