ST. CHARLES, Mo. — Led by senior Dawaylon Barnes' first-place showing, a total of seven University of Oklahoma wrestlers claimed top-five finishes at the Lindenwood Open on Saturday. The single-day open tournament took place at Hyland Arena on Lindenwood University's campus.

Barnes went 4-0 at the event to claim first in the 165-pound bracket. Redshirt sophomore Christian Moody (125 pounds) and seniors Mike Longo (141 pounds) and Yoanse Mejias (174 pounds) all earned runner-up finishes. Redshirt freshman Justin Thomas (157 pounds) took third place, junior Davion Jeffries (149 pounds) placed fourth and senior Andrew Dixon (197 pounds) claimed fifth.

"I thought some of the guys wrestled better than I saw a week ago," OU head coach Lou Rossell said. "That's really what I'm looking for – to see each guy improve – and I think we did that. I think Moody wrestled better. I think Mike wrestled better. Dawaylon Barnes did a nice job. Yoanse, same thing. At the end of the day, we wrestled some good opponents and had another competition where we got to see where we're at, and each guy did a little bit better. That's all I really look for, to see the growth and improvement from the guys."

After opening his day with a first-round bye and a 6-3 decision in the second round, Barnes recorded back-to-back wins by fall, pinning Quiante Wagner (McKendree) in 4:08 and Kyle Jolas (Lindenwood, unattached) in 4:05. In the final round, Barnes and his opponent, Missouri's Connor Flynn, ended regulation in a 1-1 tie. With the clock running out in the first sudden-victory period, Barnes took Flynn down to claim the championship.

Moody also received a first-round bye, and in the second round, Moody recorded his first career technical fall with a 18-2 win over Maryville's Kolby Smith. After claiming a 3-1 decision over Aaron Assad (Missouri), Moody upset No. 13 Zeke Moisey (West Virginia) in the semifinals with a 6-1 decision. He narrowly dropped the final match in a 3-2 decision to Barlow McGhee (Missouri).

Longo, ranked No. 18 by InterMat, began the event with three wins by fall in as many matches. He pinned unattached Parker Filius in 3:41, Missouri's Nick Nasenbeny in 1:38 and Lindenwood's Danny Swan in 6:12. A 2-1 upset over No. 16 Kanen Storr (Iowa State) sent Longo to the finals, but he was defeated by No. 4 Jaydin Eierman (Missouri) in a 19-4 technical fall.

After a first-round bye, Justin Thomas recorded a 7-3 decision over Iowa State's Brady Jennings. He dropped his next match, 3-2, but posted two consecutive decisions (7-2; 6-2) in the consolation bracket to advance into the third-place bout. In his final match, Justin Thomas defeated McKendree's Ryan Strope  in a 7-4 decision.

Jeffries stormed out to a technical fall in his first bout, downing Demarius Smith (unattached) 16-1 to record his first technical fall of the season. He then pinned Cameron Kelly (SIU-Edwardsville, unattached) in 3:15, but Jeffries dropped an 11-5 decision to Iowa State's Jarrett Degen in the quarterfinal. After his first consolation opponent medical forfeited, Jeffries claimed a 3-1 decision over No. 18 Grant Leeth (Missouri) to advance to the third-place match. He narrowly fell in a 3-1 decision in the first sudden victory period with Alex Butler of Missouri.

Dixon also received a first-round bye, which he followed with a 16-0 technical fall over Luke Diener (McKendree, unattached). After an 8-1 decision over Donavan Fouchey (Missouri Valley College), Dixon dropped back-to back decisions (3-1 SV1; 3-0). In the fifth-place bout, Dixon recorded his second technical fall of the day with a 18-0 win over Hunter DeLong of West Virginia.

Redshirt junior Noah Teaney and freshman Connor Webb both went 3-2 at the tournament. Teaney began the day with an 11-6 decision over Missouri's Phillyp Deloach but was pinned in 6:50 in his next match with James Krischke (Maryville). He claimed a 6-2 decision and an 8-3 decision in the consolation bracket but was ultimately eliminated in a 6-2 decision against Iowa's Jerren Glosser.

Webb began the event by pinning McKendree's Christian Boyles in 2:02, marking the first win by fall of Webb's collegiate career. He lost a close 3-1 decision in sudden victory to Oklahoma State's Blake Andrews before winning back-to-back decisions (5-3; 5-2) in the consolation bracket. Webb narrowly fell to Aaron Costello (Iowa, unattached), in a 3-2 decision to end his run at the tournament.
