Mejias Named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week

NORMAN — Oklahoma wrestler Yoanse Mejias was named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week after posting a perfect record at the Journeymen/My House Northeast Duals, the conference office announced Wednesday.

The senior, who is wrestling at 174 pounds this season, opened the dual tournament with a 23-7 technical fall over Sacred Heart's Austin Abacherli. In his second match of the event, Mejias downed No. 18 Jordan Pagano of Rutgers in a 7-3 decision.

In the final dual against NC State, Mejias recorded an 8-6 decision over Daniel Bullard to finish the tournament with a 3-0 record.

Mejias moved to 6-1 on the season after the Journeymen Duals and is currently ranked No. 13 at 174 pounds by Intermat. The conference honor is the second of Mejias' career and the first this season for the Sooners.

Mejias and the Sooners return to action on Saturday at the Lindenwood Open in St. Charles, Mo.
