FAIRFAX, Va. — In an impressive offensive performance that saw four different Sooners record their first goals of the season, the Oklahoma soccer team bounced back from a couple of recent losses by rolling to a 4-0 victory against George Mason on Sunday afternoon inside George Mason Stadium.
For much of the first half, the Sooners (3-2-1 overall) dominated offensively against the Patriots (4-2-0 overall), controlling the pace and recording two scores in a three-minute span. Senior forward Liz Keester, senior midfielder Shiloh Price, senior midfielder/forward Madison Saliba and sophomore forward Emily Parker all tallied their first goals of the season in the contest.
"Today we were rewarded for our endeavor and commitment to highlight each other," fifth-year OU head coach Matt Potter said. "Four different goal scorers speaks to the opportunities and attitude we had in our attack. A clean sheet speaks to the manner in which we showed toughness and needed focus against a good George Mason team. This was a good road performance that we can continue to build off of moving forward."
OU's first goal came from Keester, who sent a high shot into the upper left corner off a pass from sophomore defender Paige Welch in the 22nd minute.
Just under three minutes later, Price made the lead 2-0 for the Sooners when she tapped in a cross from junior midfielder Lizzie Luallin from five yards out, the team-high third assist for Luallin this season.
Saliba's score came in the 49th minute, and the final goal came from Parker in the 86th minute as she rebounded a missed penalty kick to send the ball into the back of the net.
The early goals represented the first ones scored by the Sooners in the first half this season, while they now have seven in second periods. The Sooners outshot the Patriots by an 18 to five mark, including a 10 to two advantage in the first half of action.
OU redshirt senior Kassidie Stade picked up her second shutout of the season and secured two saves in a full 90 minutes in goal, while George Mason redshirt senior Kirsten Glad finished with three saves.
Up next, the Sooners continue their streak of six straight matches away from home as they head to Tulsa, Okla., to compete in the Tulsa Classic. OU will take on host Tulsa at 7:30 p.m. CT on Friday before playing Memphis at 1 p.m. CT Sunday. This season, the Sooners are celebrating 20 years of their program, which began in 1996.
