NORMAN - The University of Oklahoma is one of 16 elite men's basketball programs selected to compete in the PK80 – Phil Knight Invitational over Thanksgiving week of 2017 in Portland, Ore.
The early-season tournament was created to honor Nike co-founder and 2012 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Phil Knight in advance of his 80th birthday. The event will take place Nov. 23-26 at the Moda Center and Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
The Sooners will be joined in the tournament field by Arkansas, Butler, Connecticut, Duke, Florida, Georgetown, Gonzaga, Michigan State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Oregon, Portland, Portland State, Stanford and Texas. The event will be split into two eight-team brackets consisting of three games per team. All 24 games will be televised on ESPN networks.
The participating schools combine to boast 23 NCAA titles and 89 Final Four appearances. The field contains nine of the past 13 NCAA champions and 10 teams that own a national title.
