NEW YORK – The 2016 wrestling season comes to a close for the Sooners, with redshirt senior Cody Brewer taking third place and sophomore Ryan Millhof claiming seventh at the NCAA Championships. The tournament is being held inside Madison Square Garden.

The Sooners finished the tournament with 33.5 team points and sit in 13th place through five sessions. Team results are not final until after Saturday evening's finals matches.

In his third-place match, No. 4 Brewer downed No. 3 Zane Richards of Illinois, 9-4. The redshirt senior jumped out to a 5-3 lead after the first period and tacked on a takedown, escape and the riding-time point for the win. Brewer topped No. 7 Eric Montoya, 9-3, in the consolation semis earlier in the fifth session, tallying four takedowns and securing riding time.

Brewer ends his OU career with a 95-22 record. The 2015 National Champion and two-time Big 12 Champion is just the 11th Sooner in program history to earn four All-America honors.

No. 5 Millhof claimed seventh place at 125 pounds with a 1-0 decision over No. 10 Connor Schram of Stanford. The only points of the bout came from an escape to begin the second period, and Millhof held on for the win.

The 2016 national tournament was the first NCAA appearance for Millhof and his first time to earn All-America honors. The sophomore, who was the 2016 Big 12 Champion, ends his season with a 21-6 record.

The Sooners took six wrestlers to the NCAA Championships in Millhof, Brewer, freshman Davion Jeffries, redshirt junior Clark Glass, redshirt junior Matt Reed and redshirt junior Ross Larson. The national tournament wraps up the 2015-16 season for Oklahoma.
