NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team notched a 3-1 win over Maryland in the OU Invitational at McCasland Field House on Friday afternoon. The Sooners improved to 6-5, while the Terrapins fell to 10-3.

Oklahoma sped through the first with a 25-13 victory and took a two sets to none lead into the break by claiming the second, 25-23.

The Sooners won three points on the serve of junior outside hitter Kimmy Gardiner (Grapevine, Texas) early in the first to go on top, 7-6. Later in the set, OU more than tripled a four-point lead to 13 at 24-11 on Gardiner's serve, including two kills from redshirt-junior outside hitter Madison Ward (Lawton, Okla.) and sophomore middle blocker Marion Hazelwood (Beach City, Texas).

Maryland forced a fourth set by winning the third, 25-23. Oklahoma put the match away with a 25-20 win in the fourth.

Junior middle blocker Micaela Spann (Carrollton, Texas) powered the OU attack with 13 kills to just one error for a .522 hitting percentage. Ward finished second on the team with 12 kills and Gardiner added 11. Gardiner registered a double-double for the second-straight match with 13 digs. Hazelwood added five kills and a match-high eight blocks.

Senior libero Taylor Migliazzo (Kansas City, Mo.) matched Gardiner for the team-lead with 13 digs. Her ninth of the match came late in the third set and went for the 1,000th of her career. She became the 15th player in OU history to reach the 1,000-dig milestone and the first since Maria Fernanda in 2012.

Terrapin outside hitter Adreene Elliott led all players with 14 kills and libero Amy Dion held the match-lead in digs at 21. Whitney Craigo dished out 28 assists and Carlotta Oggioni tallied 18.
