Oklahoma, which had lost its first three five-set matches of the season, claimed the first two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-22; hitting .382 and .414 in each set. New Mexico State stormed back to force a fifth- and deciding-set with wins of 25-19 and 25-17; hitting .484 and .500, respectively. In the fifth, the Aggies led at the switch, 8-7.  The Sooners had the first shot at match-point, but NMSU staved it off temporarily. Oklahoma finished the match with a kill from junior middle blocker Micaela Spann (Carrollton, Texas) and a combo-block by Spann and senior outside hitter Kierra Holst (Coppell, Texas).

Junior outside hitter Kimmy Gardiner (Grapevine, Texas) led Oklahoma with 14 kills to go with eight digs and four blocks. Spann, one of four Sooners in double figures, added 12 kills, nine blocks and hit a match-high .545. Freshman outside hitter Alyssa Enneking (League City, Texas) and Holst reached double figures with 12 and 10, respectively.

Powering the offense were senior Julia Doyle (Plymouth, Minn.) and freshman Audrey Alford (Norman, Okla.) at the setter position. Doyle picked up 28 assists, while Alford was right behind at 27. Defensively, Oklahoma was led in digs by senior libero Taylor Migliazzo (Kansas City, Mo.) with 16.
