NORMAN — The Oklahoma wrestling team is holding a registration drive for the Oklahoma Blood Institute's Be the Match marrow program from 12:30-4 p.m. on Monday, April 27 in the lobby of McCasland Field House.
The program works to help treat blood cancer and other blood diseases. Registration takes only 10-15 minutes, and registrants must be 18-44 years old and meet health guidelines. Registrants are then placed in the system and will be contacted as a potential blood stem cell or marrow donor if they match someone in need.
The cause is one close to the OU wrestling program. Chris Watson, the OU trainer, has a three-year-old nephew named Bennett who has spent most of his life battling Pearson Syndrome, Myelodysplastic Syndrome and Monosomy 7. A matched marrow donor was found who recently provided life-saving cells to help Bennett fight two of his three diseases.
For more information about the registration drive or Be the Match program, contact OBI's Audrey Womack at (405) 297-5593.
