Vikings Move into First Place Behind Peterson

Minnesota (8-3) took a one-game lead over the Green Bay Packers (7-4) in the NFC North standings following a 20-10 win over the Atlanta Falcons Sunday. Leading the way for the Vikings was Adrian Peterson, who ran for 158 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

The 158 yards pushed Peterson's season total to an NFL best 1,164 this year. He also leads the league in attempts (237), attempts per game (21.5), yards per game (105.8) and runs of 40 or more yards (4).

In addition, Peterson moved into 18th on the NFL's all-time rushing list with 11,354 yards. He jumped ahead of O.J. Simpson (11,326), Corey Dillon (11,241) and John Riggins (11,352).

Peterson scored on a one-yard run in the first quarter to open the scoring, then added a 35-yard score in the fourth quarter to extend the Vikings' lead to 20-3. He has eight rushing touchdowns this year to rank second in the NFL.

For the Falcons, Chris Chester started at right guard in the loss.

Safety Tony Jefferson had six tackles, including a sack, and forced a fumble, while tight end Jermaine Gresham caught one pass for nine yards as Arizona defeated San Francisco, 19-13 … in the loss for the 49ers, rookie tight end Blake Bell set career highs in receptions (3), receiving yards (67) and long reception (48) … Kenny Stills caught two passes for 12 yards, Damien Williams added two receptions for 10 yards and Jordan Phillips made two tackles and broke up a pass as Miami fell to the New York Jets, 38-20 … cornerback Aaron Colvin broke up a pass and recorded three tackles, but Jacksonville lost to San Diego, 31-25 … DeMarco Murray ran for 30 yards on 14 carries and Lane Johnson started on the offensive line for Philadelphia in a 45-14 loss to Detroit on Thanksgiving Day … Gerald McCoy recorded two tackles with one sack as Tampa Bay lost at Indianapolis, 25-12 … linebacker Curtis Lofton and defensive tackle Stacy McGee each had two tackles in Oakland's 24-21 victory at Tennessee … Tress Way punted six times for an average of 44.7 yards per kick and Trent Williams started at left tackle as Washington topped the New York Giants, 20-14 … Landry Jones threw a pair of interceptions and was just 1-4 for 34 yards as Pittsburgh lost at Seattle, 39-30
