NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team fell to No. 10 Kansas, 3-1, at McCasland Field House on Saturday afternoon. The Sooners and Jayhawks went into the break tied at one set apiece after KU won the first, 25-21, and OU responded with a 25-20 win in the second. Kansas finished the match by taking the third and fourth; 25-21 and 25-19.

Oklahoma (8-14, 2-8 Big 12) outhit the Jayhawks, .350-.200, en route to claiming the second set, which was only the seventh set lost in conference play for Kansas (21-1, 10-1). Junior middle blocker Micaela Spann (Carrollton, Texas) totaled six kills and hit .667 in the set for the Sooners.

“We need to make sure they get set more,” stated head coach Santiago Restrepo about his middle blockers. “The each his .400 and got double-digits in kills, but we need to develop that connection with the setter.”

The Jayhawks, who hit .343 for the match to Oklahoma's .236, hit .429 and .405 in the remaining two sets. Kelsie Payne led all players with 22 kills and hit .486. Tiana Dockery added 15 kills, while Tayler Soucie hit .429 with 10 kills.

For the match, Spann totaled a team-leading 14 kills and hit .407. Sophomore middle blocker Marion Hazelwood (Beach City, Texas) hit a team-high .421 on 11 kills and four blocks.

Redshirt-junior outside hitter Madison Ward (Lawton, Okla.) and junior outside hitter Kimmy Gardiner (Grapevine, Texas) each recorded a double-double for the Sooners. Ward tallied 10 kills and a team-high 14 digs for her eighth of the season, while Gardiner notched her team-leading ninth on a 13-kill, 10-dig effort.

Freshman setter Audrey Alford (Norman, Okla.) made her first career start at Oklahoma. She dished out a season-high 37 assists and added seven digs. Sophomore libero Rachel Manriquez (Edmond, Okla.) picked up 10 digs.

“They bring a lot of enthusiasm; a lot of energy,” said Restrepo about Alford and fellow freshmen Madison Drescher (Southlake, Texas) and Alyssa Enneking (League City, Texas). “We're going to have to rely a lot on them in years to come and they were stepping up to the challenge.”

The Sooners return to action on the road next Wednesday, November 11 at Kansas State.
