Brewer Nabs Wrestler of the Week Honors

NORMAN – University of Oklahoma redshirt senior wrestler Cody Brewer was named TheMat.com's USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week for Nov. 2, USA Wrestling announced Monday. Brewer's honor comes after claiming a win at the 2015 NWCA All-Star Classic on Sunday, Nov. 1.
Trailing 12-10 late in the third period, the Kansas City, Mo., native tallied a last-second takedown in an exciting 141-pound Bedlam match for a 13-12 decision over Oklahoma State's Dean Heil. Experimental rules were in place for the All-Star Classic, specifically a three-point takedown rule. Brewer's performance earned him one of two outstanding wrestler awards for the event.
Brewer's win was the first for Oklahoma in the NWCA All-Star Classic since Andrew Howe defeated Penn State's Matt Brown in the 174-pound bout in 2013. Brewer and the Sooners will return to the mat Tuesday, Nov. 10 when OU holds its annual Red/White Scrimmage.
