NORMAN – University of Oklahoma senior Cody Brewer was selected as one of 20 NCAA wrestlers to compete in the 50th annual NWCA All-Star Classic, the NWCA announced Monday. The Classic is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Nov. 1 inside Georgia Tech's Hank McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta.
The match will be a Bedlam showdown as Brewer is scheduled to take on Oklahoma State sophomore Dean Heil in the 141-pound contest.
Last season, Brewer entered the NCAA Championships as the No. 13 seed in the tournament but blazed through the bracket to take home the 133-pound crown. The Kansas City, Mo., native is a three-time All-American, the 2015 Big 12 champion and boasts a 70-19 record in his three seasons as a Sooner.
Brewer is the 52nd wrestler to make an appearance in the NWCA All-Star Classic and the first since Andrew Howe, Kendric Maple and Jarrod Patterson competed in 2013. OU is 26-25 all-time in the event.
Brewer's competitor, Heil, earned a fourth-place NCAA finish last season as a freshman. He ended the year with a 27-10 record.
