NORMAN – Two University of Oklahoma wrestlers, redshirt senior Cody Brewer and redshirt junior Clark Glass, will compete in the 50th annual NWCA All-Star Classic on Sunday, Nov. 1 inside Georgia Tech's Hank McCamish Pavilion in Atlanta. The prestigious event is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. CT.
Brewer is set to face Oklahoma State's Dean Heil in a 141-pound Bedlam matchup. Last season, Brewer entered the NCAA Championships as the No. 13 seed in the tournament but blazed through the bracket to take home the 133-pound crown. The Kansas City, Mo., native is a three-time All-American, the 2015 Big 12 champion and boasts a 70-19 record in his three seasons as a Sooner.
His competitor, Heil, earned a fourth-place NCAA finish at 141 last season as a freshman. He finished his rookie season with a 27-10 record.
"This is big not only for me, but for the program. We just want to let people know that Oklahoma is still climbing, and that I get to go do this for our program is awesome."
Cody Brewer
“I think this is great for the fans with it being Bedlam. I've never wrestled him (Heil) before so it's a new challenge with a new opponent, but I think it will be great,” Brewer said. “This is big not only for me, but for the program. We just want to let people know that Oklahoma is still climbing, and that I get to go do this for our program is awesome. To start out with a bang and in such a cool event, not many people get to wrestle in this, so it will be good for that.”
Glass, a late addition to the competition, will take on NC State's Max Rohskopf in the 165-pound contest. The Brandon, Fla., native was a 2015 NCAA Championships qualifier at 165 pounds and went 2-2 in the tournament. Glass, a two-time member of the NWCA Academic Division I All-Academic Team, boasts a career record of 39-27.
Rohskopf had a similar 2014-15 season, finishing with a 25-16 record and receiving his first berth into the NCAA Championships.
“I just feel really blessed to have this opportunity to compete in the All-Star match,” Glass said. “I've been training all summer so this is a great opportunity to put my hard work on the line. I know that I've put in the work and I'm ready to go. Coach Cody always says it's a process, and just to start that process off a little earlier in the season and see what I need to work on will be great and I'll move on from there.”

Brewer and Glass will be the 52nd and 53rd Sooners to make an appearance in the NWCA All-Star Classic and the first since Andrew Howe, Kendric Maple and Jarrod Patterson competed in 2013. OU is 26-25 all-time in the event.
Fifth-year OU Head Coach Mark Cody said he believes the event will be a kick start to the year not only for Brewer and Glass but also for the entire team.
“It's great to be represented at this event period, let alone have two wrestlers there,” Cody explained. “For the rest of our team to see that we have two wrestlers competing in this event representing us, hopefully they will realize, 'Hey, we train in the same room as these guys. We get the same coaching these guys are getting. These guys are the best and we can be too if we buy in 100 percent.' This is good for recruiting and it's good to just get that notoriety for the program.”
The event will be aired live on ESPNU. For more information on the NWCA All-Star Classic, visit www.theallstarclassic.com.
