WACO, Texas — The Oklahoma soccer team fell at Baylor by a score of 1-0 on Friday night in a Big 12 road match at the Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field.
The match was low on offense for both teams, with the Sooners (8-6-2 overall, 1-2-2 Big 12) and Bears (8-5-1 overall, 3-1-0 Big 12) combining for just 11 shots. Baylor had six of those shots while OU recorded five. Both squads tallied two shots on goal.
The Sooners have struggled on the road this year with all six of their losses coming away from Norman.
The lone goal of the match came from Baylor freshman midfielder Julie James with her fourth score of the season. In the 49th minute, she tapped in a cross from fellow freshman midfielder Sarah King to give the Bears the lead.
"Coming to Baylor on a Friday night is never an easy task, and they earned the goal that was the difference in the game," fourth-year OU head coach Matt Potter said. "We have to be prepared to ask ourselves questions both individually and collectively as we were prepared. At halftime we felt if we stayed disciplined and made minor adjustments we could go on to win the game.
"We are all disappointed in the second-half performance, and that falls on me to get the personnel changes and combinations of players right," Potter continued. "We learned a harsh lesson today and Baylor deserved the result. We move on."
Senior Devin Barrett led OU with two shots, one of which was on goal, while sophomore Chelsea Jackson tallied the Sooners' other shot on goal. Junior Caren Nelson and freshman Kaylee Dao also had looks in the contest.
OU junior goalkeeper Kassidie Stade, who recorded a save on Friday, fell to 6-6-2 on the year with the loss. Baylor junior goalkeeper Sara Martinson recorded a pair of saves and improved to 7-4-1 this season.
The Sooners return to action next weekend when they conclude a four-match road trip. OU will face Texas at 7 p.m. CT on Friday, Oct. 23 before taking on TCU at 1 p.m. CT on Sunday, Oct. 25.
