DURHAM, N.C. – The University of Oklahoma suffered a 3-0 sweep at the hands of Duke at Cameron Indoor Stadium, Saturday evening. The loss was the second in a row for the Sooners, who dropped to 9-4, while the Blue Devils lifted their record to 8-3. The straight set loss; 25-18, 25-15, 25-20, was the first of the season for Oklahoma.
Junior outside hitter Kierra Holst (Coppell, Texas) led the Sooners with 13 kills, while freshman middle blocker Marion Hazelwood (Beach City, Texas) finished second on the team with eight on a .316 hitting percentage.
Duke's Emily Sklar led all players with 16 kills and hit .467. Breanna Atkinson and Jeme Obeime each finished in double figures with 13 and 10 respectively. As a team, the Blue Devils hit .316 and held OU to .183.
Kelsey Williams collected 39 assists and added eight digs for Duke, while OU junior setter Julia Doyle (Plymouth, Minn.) totaled a season-low 22 assists to go with nine digs.
Sasha Karelov led all players with 18 digs and chipped in with four assists for the Blue Devils. In her second straight start at libero, freshman Emma Kelly (Houston, Texas) led the Sooners with a season-high 12 digs.
Oklahoma returns to action next Saturday, September 27 in its Big 12 opener against Kansas at McCasland Field House at 7:00 pm.
