Oklahoma at Iowa State
Feb. 1, 2014
• Playing its fifth ranked opponent in the last eight games, No. 23/25 Oklahoma lost 81-75 at No. 16/18 Iowa State. ISU improved to 10-1 at home this year and to 38-4 there over the past three seasons.
• With OU trailing 69-68, Buddy Hield's would-be go-ahead 12-footer with 2 minutes left was off the mark and the Sooners never got closer than two points after Iowa State hit two free throws on its ensuing possession.
• The Sooners outrebounded the Cyclones 46-33. Despite holding a 14-6 advantage in offensive rebounds, OU was outscored 8-4 in second-chance points (it outscored the Cyclones 22-2 in the category three weeks ago in Norman).
• Hield finished with a career-high 30 points (previous high was 23) on 10-for-18 field goal, 5-for-8 3-point and 5-for-5 free throw shooting. He added seven rebounds, three assists and three steals. In two games vs. Iowa State this year, Hield is averaging 26.0 points and has gone 11-for-20 from behind the arc. He has scored in double figures in all but one game this year.
• Fellow sophomore guard Isaiah Cousins finished with his first career double-double, tallying 13 points and a career-high 10 rebounds while also contributing four assists. He was 6-for-13 from the field.
• Freshman guard Jordan Woodard scored all 10 of his points in the second half and added a career-high five rebounds and seven assists while committing just one turnover.
• Sophomore forward Ryan Spangler finished with eight points, a team-high 12 rebounds and a career-high-tying four assists. The double-digit rebounding performance was his 13th of the season (last year's entire OU roster produced seven such efforts).
• The Sooners held senior guard DeAndre Kane, who was leading the Big 12 in conference play with his 19.4 points per game entering the day, to a season-low-tying five points on 2-for-8 shooting. But sophomore forward Georges Niang scored a career-high 27 points on 10-for-16 shooting.
• Oklahoma is back in action Wednesday when it plays at West Virginia at 7 p.m. CT (televised by ESPNU).
