STILLWATER, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma wrestling team fell to No. 9 Oklahoma State, 25-11, Sunday afternoon inside Gallagher-Iba Arena in the first of two Bedlam matchups this season.

In the contest, the Sooners registered three match victories at 133 pounds, 157 pounds and 174 pounds. OU head coach Mark Cody said Bedlam is an exciting event of which to be a part.

“It sure is disappointing to come out on the losing side of it, but it's an exciting event and as far as the guys go, our aggressive guys won and the guys who waited around for something to happen didn't win,” Cody said.

Cody continued that with quality duals against tough teams in Missouri and Cornell, he felt that his squad was match ready.

“We cleaned up a lot of mistakes in those matches, but you know how it goes,” Cody explained. "Sometimes it takes a few more matches to get them to believe that this is what you're going to do and things aren't going to come easy. You have to fight hard.”

The dual began at heavyweight, and OU dropped the first two bouts by decision before Cody Brewer secured the first win at 133 pounds with a 22-7 technical fall of sophomore Brian Crutchmer. Brewer, ranked No. 3, tallied eight total takedowns in the bout, including five in the first period, en route to the victory.

After trailing 1-0 entering the final period, redshirt senior and No. 14 Justin DeAngelis scored five points to take the 157-pound bout by decision over Anthony Collica, 5-2.

Matt Reed cut into the Cowboys' lead, making it 16-11, with a victory at 174 pounds against sophomore Jordan Rogers. The match featured an active first period, with a 5-2 score at its conclusion. Reed, a redshirt sophomore, went on to win by decision, 6-3.

The dual began at heavyweight and pitted No. 12 Ross Larson against OSU's No. 5 Austin Marsden. The match remained scoreless after the first period before Marsden added an early second-period takedown. Larson added a couple of escapes but eventually lost to Marsden by decision, 5-2.

At 125 pounds, freshman Ryan Millhof fell to No. 14 Eddie Klimara by a 4-1 decision and freshman Trae Blackwell lost to OSU redshirt freshman Dean Heil, 10-5, at 149 pounds. Redshirt freshman Shayne Tucker faced No. 2 Josh Kindig in the 149-pound match, dropping a 10-2 major decision.

In the 165-pound contest, OU's Clark Glass took on No. 1 Alex Dieringer. Dieringer, the defending national champion at 157 pounds, defeated Glass by decision, 8-1. Freshman Nathan Marek made his dual debut for the Sooners at 184 pounds against sophomore Nolan Boyd, where he fell by injury default.

The dual's final match featured high school teammates in OU freshman Andrew Dixon and OSU redshirt sophomore Austin Schafer, who both attended Edmond North. The match remained tied late in the third period before No. 20 Schafer added a takedown in the final 10 seconds to win by decision, 3-2.

The Sooners have a couple of weeks off from competition before returning to the mat on Sunday, Dec. 21, to participate in the Reno Tournament of Champions in Reno, Nev.
