Player of the Match
Marion Hazelwood // Fr. // MB Hazelwood hit a match-high .579 with 13 kills to go with six blocks. She reached double figures in kills for the ninth time this season.

NORMAN, Okla. – For the third straight match, the University of Oklahoma volleyball team went the distance and this time came out on top, 3-2, over Central Arkansas at McCasland Field House on Tuesday night. The Sooners snapped a short two-game slide and improved to 18-9, while the Sugar Bears fell to 18-11.

Oklahoma is 3-5 in five-set matches this season and bounced back after coming out on the short-end against Iowa State and No. 5 Texas in the last week. Central Arkansas went on top with wins of 25-21 and 25-22 in the first two sets. The Sooners came out of the break strong in the third, winning 25-18. A narrow win in the fourth, 25-23, knotted the match at two sets, apiece. In the fifth set, Oklahoma hit a match-high .393 as a unit and claimed the match 17-15 after staving off two match-points for the Bears.

“You know, [the effort] is still inexcusable in regards to our energy level,” claimed head coach Santiago Restrepo. “We're a team that needs a lot of practice, we need to work on our fundamentals, but having a few girls step up after being put into positions & roles they haven't been in before was great.”

Four Sooners finished the night in double figures, led by junior outside hitter Kierra Holst (Coppell, Texas) with 20 kills. It was her fourth 20-kill match of the season. Holst added seven digs and three blocks.

Freshman middle blocker Marion Hazelwood (Beach City, Texas) finished second with 13 kills, hit a match-leading .579 and totaled a match-high six blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Kimmy Gardiner (Grapevine, Texas) and sophomore middle blocker Micaela Spann (Carrollton, Texas) also tallied double digits with 12 and 10, respectively. Gardner added seven digs, while Spann contributed four blocks.

Central Arkansas' Evie Singleton led all players with 22 kills and three service aces, while registering 20 digs for a double-double. Heather Schnars also recorded a double-double in a 19-kill, 10-dig effort.

“That's a very well coached team that uses a very fast paced offense and they took it to us early,” stated Restrepo. “I'm glad we were able to respond, and I think it showed the character of our team by not laying down, by the way they kept fighting. Even when faced with match-point, they kept fighting and got the win. That's the most important thing.”

UCA setter Amy South dished out 66 assists and libero Shelbee Berringer led all players with 29 digs.

For Oklahoma, junior setter Julia Doyle (Plymouth, Minn.) collected 51 assists for her fifth 50-plus assist match of the season. Junior libero Taylor Migliazzo (Kansas City, Mo.) led the Sooners with 17 digs. Senior Kaitlyn Drawe (Lee's Summit, Mo.) and freshman Emma Kelly (Houston, Texas) joined her in double figures with 10 and 11.

Oklahoma returns to action Saturday afternoon at Texas Tech at 3:00 pm. The home finale is next Wednesday, November 26 against Kansas State.
