NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma redshirt junior Justin DeAngelis became the third Sooner to receive a weekly honor this season after being named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week for competition from Jan. 6 through Jan. 12, the conference announced Monday.
DeAngelis, who is from Tulsa, Okla., went 2-0 as he logged a pair of decisions at 157 pounds to help the fourth-ranked Sooners to road victories against Wyoming (33-9) and No. 17 Iowa State (27-11).
Against Wyoming on Thursday night, DeAngelis upset No. 18 Andy McCulley by a 5-3 decision. He defeated Iowa State's John Nicholson by decision, 8-5, on Sunday afternoon.
On the 2013-14 season, DeAngelis has posted a 12-3 overall record and a 6-1 mark in dual competition.
DeAngelis' recognition marks the third such honor for the Sooners this season. Travis Rutt was honored as the Big 12 Wrestler of the Month for November, while Andrew Howe received Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honors on Dec. 9.
