NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma is ranked No. 4 in the Associated Press Preseason Poll released Saturday morning, marking the eighth time since 2001 that the Sooners will open the season ranked in the top five and the 12th consecutive year in which OU is featured in the preseason top 10.
The Sooners, ranked to open the season for the 54th time in 63 all-time polls, were one of five teams to receive at least one first-place vote, joining USC, Alabama, LSU and Michigan. Earlier in August, Oklahoma also ranked No. 4 in the
USA Today Coaches Preseason Poll.
Oklahoma will face five teams during the regular season ranked in the preseason AP Top 25 including West Virginia (11), Texas (15), Oklahoma State (19), TCU (20) and Kansas State (22). The Big 12 has six members in the preseason AP poll, matching the SEC for the most from any conference.
When the No. 4 Sooners open the 2012 season at UTEP (Saturday, Sept. 1, at 8:30 p.m. MT/9:30 p.m. CT), it will mark the 381st week that OU has been ranked in the Top Five of the AP poll, which ranks first nationally.
The Sooners completed preseason camp on Friday as OU prepares for its 118th season of football. Visit
