SURREY, British Columbia, Canada — The USA Softball National Team, including Oklahoma's Keilani Ricketts and Jessica Shults, fell to Japan, 9-6, in eight innings Monday night at the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship. Ricketts earned the start for the U.S. and was active in the circle for five innings.
Ricketts struck out three while giving up three runs off seven hits and one walk. Chelsea Thomas took the loss for the Americans as Japan scored five runs in the top of the eighth after the U.S. rallied with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game up. USA was able to score two runs of its own in the bottom of the eighth but was unable to complete the rally after Shults loaded the bases with a two-out, pinch-hit walk in the bottom of the inning.
The American team next returns to action on July 13 as it opens action at the 2012 ISF XIII Women's World Fastpitch Championship in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada.
