NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma wrestling program has signed Daniel Chaid of San Diego, Calif., to a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Sooners beginning in 2013-14 head coach Mark Cody announced, today.

Chaid, will join the Sooner family alongside fellow 2013-14 commit Oliver Pierce in the early signing period. The San Diego native follows in his father's footsteps - also, Daniel Chaid - who was a two-time California State Champion out of Gunderson High School and an NCAA champion for Oklahoma in 1985.

"We're very excited to have Daniel be a part of this program," said Cody. "As many may know, his father Dan Chaid Sr. was a four-time All-American and NCAA Champion here at the University of Oklahoma and one of the greatest competitors in the history of our program.

"I think Dan Chaid Jr.'s best years are ahead of him," added Cody. "We are very fortunate to have him join us here at the University of Oklahoma."

The Bellarmine High wrestler made three straight appearances at the California State Championships, finishing eighth at 189 pounds in 2011, after he took home the Central Coast Section 189-pound wrestling championship just weeks prior.

Following his 2010-11 campaign, Chaid bounced back in 2012 ending the year as the 195-pound California State Champion and Wrestler of the Year for his respective weight class. His senior campaign saw him take titles at the Curt Mettler Invitational, Sierra Nevada Classic, Cupertino Memorial and Tim Brown Invitational.

Nationally, Chaid was a runner-up at the 2012 Junior & Cadet National Championships and earned All-American honors in both styles of competition during the Championships after he was named a Junior Greco-Roman All-American for his runner-up finish, and a Junior Freestyle All American for his fourth-place efforts.
