NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma wrestling program has signed Oliver Pierce of Allen, Texas, to a National Letter of Intent to compete for the Sooners beginning in 2013-14 head coach Mark Cody announced, Wednesday.
“Oliver exemplifies everything that we're looking for here in an athlete at the University of Oklahoma,” remarked Cody.
“We learned a lot about him throughout the recruiting process, and we're very excited that he has decided to join us here at the University of Oklahoma at a time that we feel is going to be very special for this program.”
Pierce is both an extremely talented wrestler and standout football player out of Allen High School, home of the Eagles. Although his career is young, Pierce already has a long resume.
Heading into his senior season, Pierce is ranked No. 1 by Flo Wrestling and No. 2 by Amateur Wrestling News, in his 157-pound weight class.

En route to his top-five finish, he beat wrestlers from Mongolia and Canada to earn a spot in the bronze medal match, but lost to Asamai Dauletbek of Kazakhstan in his final bout. His junior year saw him finish third at the 2012 Texas State Championships and claim the 2012 Cheesehead Invitational – one of the best national high school tournaments in the country.
Pierce had only suffered one loss throughout his underclassmen high school career, during the state semifinals where he broke his ankle in the first period and entered his junior season with an 84-1 record after an undefeated rookie campaign that resulted in the state championship title.
The acclaimed wrestler has taken home the 152-pound championship three consecutive years at the district tournament.
