NORMAN, Okla. -- The ninth-ranked wrestlers from Oklahoma will battle No. 23 Binghamton on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 6 p.m. CT, in Vestal, N.Y.
“I think competitively Binghamton will be a lot like Wyoming,” Mark Cody said. “On paper this match will come down to bonus points. At this point, a couple of our guys need to step up and wrestle at the level they are capable of. If they do that we could come out with a decisive victory and if not it will be a tight match.”
Oklahoma (4-2, 2-1) is 1-1 since the holiday break and is fresh off a 26-10 trouncing of Navy that took place in Annapolis, Md., on Jan. 7. Prior to that, OU lost an 18-17 contest at No. 18 Wyoming.
Binghamton (8-0-0) is perfect on the year and recently downed Buffalo, 27-12, after finishing fourth at the Reno Tournament of Champions where they produced four placewinners.
Tuesday's matchup marks the first showdown ever between the Sooners and Bearcats.
“Binghamton is now undefeated and are on a roll at this point,” Cody continued. “Hopefully, we can stop that momentum.”
Up next, the Sooners head down I-35 to take part in the Lone Star Duals on Saturday, Jan. 14, in Arlington, Texas.

He earned his first career conference honor after being named the Big 12 Conference Wrestler of the Month for his performance in November where he compiled a 6-0 overall record (3-0 dual) at 141 pounds. During that span, he accumulated three victories by major decision and two technical falls.
On Nov. 12, Maple won the Brockport/Oklahoma Gold title after he posted a 3-0 record and defeated Rutgers' 16th-ranked Billy Ashnault by major decision, Army's Connor Hanafee via a technical fall and American's No. 9-ranked Matthew Mariacher, 5-0. After his impressive outing at the tournament, he was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler.
