Minneapolis, Minn. – The University of Oklahoma women's cross country team finished 19th at the Roy Griak Invitational Saturday.
Jessica Engel made her 2011 season debut Saturday and was OU's top finisher placing 12th (21:02). Engel was followed by Kelly Waters who finished 111th (22:26), Molly Ferguson in 115th (22:33), Brianna Martin in 124th (22:39) and Natalie Crain in 129th (22:44). Kelsey Brown (22:50) and Hilary Krein (22:56) also finished in the top 140 of the event's 250-plus participants.
Engel finished one spot behind her 11th-place 2009 performance at Roy Griak Invitational.
The University of California won the race and was led by Deborah Maier who was the top finisher (20:30). No. 9 Iowa State placed second, followed by No. 10 Arizona in third, No. 28 Michigan State in fourth and host No. 30 Minnesota placed fifth to round out the top five.
The next competition for the Oklahoma women is Oct. 8 in Shawnee, Okla., at the OBU Bison Invitational.
