Ty Taylor Set to Join OU for 2012 Season

NORMAN, Okla. - Oklahoma baseball Head Coach Sunny Golloway announced Wednesday that Weatherford College's Ty Taylor will join the Sooners for the 2012 season.
Taylor, a left-handed pitcher and outfielder, was 9-1 with a 2.23 ERA in his first season at Weatherford under head coach Jeff Lightfoot. Taylor was the squad's No. 2 starter where he logged five complete games, 80-plus innings and was named honorable mention all-region. In addition, Taylor also played 53 games in the outfield and hit .278 with 21 RBI.
Weatherford was 36-23 in 2011 and advanced to the finals of the Region V tournament as Taylor was named first team all-conference after ranking in the top five in the league in wins, innings pitched, opposing batting average, strikeouts, complete games, strikeouts per nine innings and strikeout-to-walk ratio.
The Cleburne, Texas, native was a four-year letterwinner at Cleburne H.S. under head coach Ross Taylor with a 37-9 career record on the mound.
The Yellow Jackets won the district title during his senior campaign as he finished with a 14-4 mark on the mound with a 0.80 ERA and was named the District 16-4A Most Valuable Player. He also hit .475 as a senior with 22 doubles while collecting all-state honors.
The 6-0, 175 pound utility player was a four-time all-district honoree joins Dylan Raper (Glenpool, Okla.), Archie Bradley (Broken Arrow, Okla.) and Adam Choplick (Denton, Texas) who were introduced during the Sooners' 2011 season.
In November of last year, the OU coaching staff inked seven high school players, including four Oklahoma products, and seven players from the junior college ranks. Ten of those signees were selected in the 2011 MLB Draft earlier this month.
Taylor was named all-district in 2009 when he hit .462 as a junior with an 8-3 mark on the mound with a 1.30 ERA. He was tabbed the district's sophomore of the year in 2008 as he posted a 5-1 mark with a 1.90 ERA with a .390 average at the plate. In 2007, he was selected as the district's newcomer of the year after going 7-1 with a 0.60 ERA and a .365 batting average.
