NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma sophomore Sallie McLaurin (Midwest City, Okla) and freshman Tara Dunn (Poth, Texas) have been named the Big 12 Conference Co-Defensive and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the conference office announce this afternoon.
The duo led OU to a 3-1 win over Kansas State on Saturday. McLaurin led the Sooners with seven total blocks; including a season-high two block solos. With the outing, McLaurin upped her season average to 1.41 blocks per set, second in the league. She leads the Big 12 with 1.62 blocks per set in conference matches. McLaurin also hit a team-best .400 with one attack error and 11 kills. She added one service ace and four digs and had a team-best 16.5 points on the week.
McLaurin was previously named Defensive Player of the Week on October 3. She earned Rookie of the Week honors three times as a freshman in 2010.
Dunn earned her first weekly honor after recording her seventh double-double this year. She led OU with 13 kills against the Wildcats and hit a .316 clip with just one attack error in 38 attempts. She added 12 digs, one service ace and three blocks, including one block solo. She ranked just behind McLaurin with 16.0 points on the week.
Dunn is second on the team with 3.05 kills per set and ranks 10th in the league in the category.
The honors bring OU's weekly total for the season to five.
