SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The University of Oklahoma volleyball team opened the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational with a four set win over Utah Friday afternoon.
The Sooners (6-3) won the opening set 25-17 before dropping the second, 23-25. OU rebounded to win the third set 25-23 and fourth 25-18 against the Utes (4-3).
Junior Suzy Boulavsky led the Sooners with 16 kills, while sophomore Morgan Reynolds contributed a career-high 14 kills. Boulavsky hit .273 and added one block solo and two block assists.
Junior Brianne Barker recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 43 assists and 10 digs. Barker also added two service aces.
Senior Sarah Freudenrich added 11 kills, leading the team with a .611 hitting percentage.
Freshman Sallie McLaurin had a match-best seven block assists. Sophomore Maria Fernanda was one dig shy of 30 with 29 on the afternoon. Fernanda's previous career best was 27.
As a team, OU hit just above its average at .208. The Sooners out-blocked the Utes, 10-7.
Karolina Bartkowiak led Utah with 15 kills. Morgan Odale added 14. Three Utes posted double-digit digs with Keisha Fisher's 22 leading the way.
Oklahoma closes out non-conference action tomorrow against Saint Louis at 10 a.m. CT and Missouri State at 7:30 p.m. CT.
