NORMAN, Okla. -- The eighth-ranked University of Oklahoma wrestling team took care of business Saturday at the Oklahoma Open, topping Oklahoma City, 43-0, and North Carolina State, 52-0, at the Mosier Indoor Track Facility in Norman.

OU (5-0) recorded seven pins on the day, six of which came against the Wolfpack. The Sooners 52-0 victory over North Carolina State marks the second-highest margin of victory in Oklahoma history, trailing only the 2007 squad that defeated Oklahoma City 55-0.

“This is about as fine a team performance as I've been associated with,” head coach Jack Spates said. “It's not who we've wrestled, but how we wrestled. We were tough, aggressive and worked hard. I think this team is turning the corner. We are a young team, but a young team that is getting better every match.”

Oklahoma standout Seth Vernon (149 pounds) recorded two pins on the day. Other Sooners recording pins were Jordan Keller (133), Chase Nelson (165), Tyler Caldwell (174), Keldrick Hall (197) and Nathan Fernandez (HWT), all of which came against the Wolfpack.

In addition to the seven pins the Sooners racked up three technical falls, all coming against Oklahoma City in the first dual of the day. Dustin Reed (133), Zack Bailey (141), Caldwell and Hall each sported technical fall victories over the Stars.

The most exciting bout of the evening came at the 141-pound matchup between OU's Zack Bailey and NC State's Darrius Little. Bailey, ranked No. 1 nationally, fell behind 4-1 in the first period, but scored a takedown with eight-seconds remaining in the third period to secure the 7-6 victory.

“We are going to have to step it up considerably next week in Vegas but we are excited about it,” Spates said.

Next up the Sooners travel to Las Vegas, Nev., to compete in the Cliff Keen Invitational, Dec. 3-4, before returning to dual action against in-state foe Oklahoma State in the Big 12 opener on Sunday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m. in Stillwater.
