TUESDAY'S GAME BASICS
Oklahoma (3-1) takes on Virginia (2-2) Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. CT in the second round of the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational in Lahaina, Hawaii.  The consolation bracket contest will air on the Sooner Radio Network (KOKC AM 1520 in Oklahoma City; KTBZ AM 1430 in Tulsa) with Tom Dore and Mike Houck announcing.  The game will be televised by ESPN2 with Carter Blackburn and Jimmy Dykes calling the action.

MONDAY'S KENTUCKY RECAP
• Oklahoma dropped its first game of the season, losing 76-64 to No. 8/9 Kentucky in the first round of the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational.
• Kentucky made its first six field goal attempts of the game and nine of its first 10 in building a 21-8 lead.  The Wildcats led 42-28 at halftime and by as many as 18 in the second half (59-41 with 12:11 left).
• OU used a 21-9 run to draw within six (68-62) with 2:11 remaining and had possession of the ball.  Kentucky closed the game on an 8-2 spurt over the final 1:16, however.
• Senior guard Cade Davis scored 17 of his team-high 23 points in the second half.  He finished 9-of-20 from the field and 3-of-7 from 3-point range while adding six rebounds.  Davis played 39 minutes and did not commit a turnover.
• Sophomore forward Andrew Fitzgerald netted 14 points on 7-of-14 shooting and pulled down five boards in a career-high 39 minutes.
• Sophomore point guard Carl Blair racked up a season-high 10 points in a season-high 20 minutes off the bench.  He was 3-for-5 from the field and 4-for-5 at the foul line.
• Junior forward C.J. Washington played 16 minutes off the bench and contributed six boards and a pair of blocked shots.
• Oklahoma entered the game with a Big 12-best .806 free throw mark but went just 9-for-18 (.500) on the day.
• The Sooners were outrebounded (40-33) for the first time this season.
• OU outscored Kentucky 14-13 in fast break points.

SOONER UPDATE
• Eight of OU's top nine scorers are in their first or second year of Division I basketball.  Five of the nine are in their first year.
• The Sooners are shooting .455 from the field and .404 from 3-point range while holding opponents to respective .372 and .333 figures.
• OU is off to a solid start at the foul line with its Big 12-best .741 season mark.  The Sooners own a .833 free throw mark after halftime (40-for-48).
• Oklahoma has outrebounded three of its four foes and owns a +6.3 board advantage.  It is averaging 12.0 offensive rebounds per game.
• After averaging 8.5 points on 3-for-14 field goal and 2-for-9 3-point shooting in OU's first two games, senior guard Cade Davis is averaging 22.0 points on 16-for-32 field goal and 9-for-17 (.529) 3-point shooting over the last two.  He went 6-for-10 from long distance en route to a 21-point game against Texas Southern last Thursday and canned 3-of-7 attempts in a 23-point effort Monday against Kentucky.
• OU's second- and third-leading scorers are sophomores.  Forward Andrew Fitzgerald, who scored 22 points in each of the first two games, is averaging 15.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals per outing.  Twenty-seven pounds lighter than last year, Fitzgerald is also shooting a team-best .533 from the field.   Guard Steven Pledger is averaging 14.0 points while adding 3.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per contest.  A natural shooting guard, Pledger has started at the point in all four outings. 
• Junior college transfer Nick Thompson has contributed in several areas, as evidenced by his averages of 5.5 points and team highs of 8.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists.  The 6-9 forward registered seven handouts in each of OU's first two games.
• Freshman guard Cameron Clark is averaging 7.5 points and 5.3 rebounds in four starts (he recorded 11 points and 11 boards in his collegiate debut).  Clark has yet to commit a turnover in 116 minutes of play.  Fellow frosh guard Calvin Newell has come off the bench to average 7.0 points in 17.0 minutes per contest (he played just three minutes versus Kentucky).
• Freshman forward Tyler Neal is averaging 5.5 points in his two appearances (8.0 minutes per game).  The forward, who did not play against Kentucky, is 4-for-4 from the field and 2-for-2 at the foul line.

PREVIEWING VIRGINIA
Atlantic Coast Conference member Virginia enters Tuesday's game against Oklahoma with a 2-2 record following a 106-63 loss to No. 13 Washington on Monday.  The Cavaliers posted home wins over William & Mary (76-52) and USC Upstate (74-54) to open the year before falling at Stanford (81-60) last Thursday and to Washington.  UVa is shooting .457 from the field, .385 from 3-point range and .726 from the free throw line, while opponents are shooting .495 from the floor and .480 from long distance.  Washington shot .580 from the field Monday and .654 (17-for-26) from behind the arc.

Senior forward Mike Scott paces the Cavaliers in scoring and rebounding with his 14.0 and 7.8 season averages.  Scott, who teamed with OU sophomore guard Steven Pledger in high school and on the AAU circuit, is shooting .513 from the field and .889 (16-for-18) from the free throw line.  Virginia's next five leading scorers are guards: freshman Joe Harris (10.3 points on .533 field goal shooting), senior Mustapha Farrakhan (9.8 points), freshman Billy Baron (9.5 points on .421 3-point shooting), freshman KT Harrell (8.8 points and 3.8 rebounds) and sophomore Jontel Evans (7.5 points on .522 field goal shooting; 4.0 assists).

Head coach Tony Bennett, a 1992 Wisconsin-Green Bay graduate, owns a 17-18 record in his second year at Virginia.  He is 86-51 in his fifth season overall.

OU-VIRGINIA SERIES HISTORY
Oklahoma and Virginia have met twice, with each team winning a game.  The Sooners posted a 109-61 win over the Cavaliers in the Chaminade Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii, during the 1987-88 campaign (OU played in the national championship game that season).  A year later, Virginia ended the season for an OU team that featured first-round NBA Draft picks Stacey King and Mookie Blaylock by winning 86-80 in the NCAA Tournament Southeast Regional semifinals in Lexington, Ky.

OU'S MAUI INVITATIONAL HISTORY
This marks Oklahoma's fourth time to participate in the Maui Invitational.  Under former head coach Billy Tubbs, OU finished in third place (2-1) in the 1988 event (lost 91-80 to eventual national champion Michigan in the title game) and in fifth place (2-1) in the 1992 tournament.  Head coach Jeff Capel brought the Sooners to Lahaina in 2006-07, his first season at OU, and went 1-2 to finish in seventh place.  Here are Oklahoma's previous three Maui Invitational results:
