HOUSTON – Junior Sarah Freudenrich led Oklahoma with 10 kills and four block assists as the Sooners blanked Houston Baptist, 3-0 [25-10, 25-19, 25-21], to open the 2009 Mizuno Invitational hosted by Rice University. OU returns to action later this evening, facing host Rice at 7:30 p.m. CT.
Freudenrich recorded just one attack error in 18 attempts to hit .500 during the match. Senior Bridget Laplante had seven kills, eight digs and three block assists, while freshman Morgan Reynolds tallied a .750 clip, notching six kills in eight attempts and no attack errors.
Sophomore Brianne Barker recorded her first double-double of the season with 30 assists and 11 digs. Barker also added a block solo. Freshman libero Maria Frenanda led the Sooners defensively with 17 digs.
Sophomore Suzy Boulavsky totaled five kills, while juniors Francie Ekwerekwu and Chrissy Disarro added three each. Sophomores Caitlin Higgins and Danielle Alva aided defensively with eight and six digs, respectively.
