NORMAN, Okla. – Sophomore Caitlin Higgins and junior Chrissy Disarro each recorded 11 kills and sophomore setter Brianne Barker led the crimson team with 16 digs and 38 assists to top the cream squad during Saturday morning's scrimmage at McCasland Field House.
The crimson team won the first set, 25-23, before dropping the second set to the cream, 25-19. Crimson rebounded to take set three, 25-17 and the fourth set, 25-22.
Higgins recorded a double-double adding 12 digs to her line. She also added one block assist. Disarro's 11 kills highlighted a .474 match-high hitting percentage. Disarro struck on 11 of her 19 total attacks. She also added two block assists and three digs.
Barker's 16 digs and 37 assists gave the sophomore a double-double. She added five kills during the match. Senior Jackie Fotu totaled 10 kills, hitting a .318 clip. Fotu added 11 digs for a double-double and also recorded one block assist and service ace.
Junior Francie Ekwerekwu connected with nine kills and two block solos, while freshman Morgan Reynolds also struck down eight kills and added four service aces, eight digs and two block solos.
As a team, the crimson squad recorded six service aces and six total team blocks.
Junior Sarah Freudenrich led the cream squad with 11 kills and five total blocks. Freudenrich recorded three block solos and two block assists. Senior Bridget Laplante added nine kills, leading the cream with a team-high .231 hitting percentage. Laplante contributed 10 digs and had three blocks and a service ace.
Freshman Alex Edwards had 14 digs to go along with six kills, while sophomore Kylie Cowan led the team with 27 assists. Cowan added nine digs and five kills on the morning. Sophomore Suzy Boulavsky totaled nine kills and two block assists.
Freshman libero Maria Fernanda totaled a match-high 21 digs.
The cream squad totaled 11 total team blocks with six block solos and 10 block assists.
The match featured 28 ties and 15 lead changes and lasted an hour, 44 minutes.
Oklahoma opens the 2009 volleyball season next Friday, Aug. 29, at the Mizuno Invitational hosted by Rice University. The Sooners take on Houston Baptist Friday afternoon at 1 p.m. CT before facing the host team at 7:30 p.m. CT Friday night.
