Fernanda Earns Big 12 Weekly Honor

NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma freshman María Fernanda was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week Monday afternoon. It marks the second weekly honor for the Rio Piedras, P.R. native this season. She was previously named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 21. 

Fernanda led OU to a 1-1 record on the week, carrying the team with 39 digs for a 4.88 per set average. She recorded 22 digs in the five-set thriller against Nebraska and added a service ace against the Huskers. On Saturday against Texas Tech, Fernanda contributed a match-high 17 digs and a season-high seven assists.

The Sooners return to action Wednesday evening, hosting No. 14 Iowa State at 7 p.m. CT at McCasland Field House.
