NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma volleyball team (2-4) closes out non-conference action this weekend at the Ladyjack Invitational in Nacogdoches, Texas. OU opens the tournament against Rice (5-2) on Friday morning at 11 a.m. CT and faces host Stephen F. Austin (3-3) in the nightcap beginning at 7 p.m.
The Sooners conclude tournament action Saturday morning against Creighton (3-4) at 11 a.m. CT. OU will then take on UT-Pan American (3-4) in a 4:30 p.m. CT non-tournament neutral site affair.
Oklahoma leads the all-time series against three of the four teams on this weekend's slate. Saturday morning's meeting will mark the first between OU and the Creighton Blue Jays. The Sooners hold a 3-1 advantage over Rice and have not faced the Owls since 2005. SFA and OU last met in 1993 and the Sooners have a 2-0 edge in that series. Oklahoma leads the all-time series with UTPA, 3-0.
OU head coach Santiago Restrepo enters this weekend two wins shy of his 200th career victory. Now in his 10th season of coaching, Restrepo's all-time mark stands at 198-131 (.546). He is also currently four wins shy of his 75th career win at Oklahoma.
The Sooners went 1-2 last weekend at the Holiday Inn City Center Trojan Invitational in Los Angeles. After taking the opening set from host Southern Cal, 27-25, OU was unable to hold as USC took a 3-1 win. The following day, the Sooners dropped a 3-0 contest to #20 San Diego. Oklahoma closed out the tournament on a high note, defeating Hofstra convincingly, 3-0.
Redshirt sophomore Francie Ekwerekwu was named to the all-tournament team after leading the team in kills for the second straight weekend. Freshman setter Brianne Barker garnered the first two double-doubles of her career, the first coming against San Diego and the second against Hofstra. Sophomore Chrissy Disarro had a career game against Southern Cal by setting new highs in four categories – block solos (5), block assists (6), total blocks (11) and kills (9). She is currently tied for 28th in the nation with 1.41 blocks per set.
Live stats from the event will be available on the Stephen F. Austin athletics web site, www.sfajacks.com. A live web stream of the OU-SFA match on Thursday is available through SFA All-Access for $5.95.
