Carter Nets 22 in OU Road Win

WACO, Texas (AP) - Winning his first Big 12 Conference road game brought a lot of satisfaction to Oklahoma coach Jeff Capel.

With Nate Carter scoring 22 points, and Longar Longar and Bobby Maze adding 12 each, the Sooners captured a 68-64 win over Baylor on Saturday.

"You have to be able to win games like this," Capel said. "We had just played two emotional home games, and we were a little big fatigued. When you come on the road, you don't have that same crowd to give you energy."

Trailing 67-64, Baylor got a final opportunity to tie the game when Troy Crocker was called for traveling with 28 seconds remaining.

The Bears worked the ball down low to Kevin Rogers, but he missed his jumper and Longar, who had 12 rebounds, grabbed the errant shot for the Sooners (15-8, 6-4 Big 12).

Following a foul by Tim Bush with 13 seconds left to play, Longar sank a free throw to clinch the Oklahoma win.

"We just stuck in there and got a win," Longar said. "They (Baylor) weren't going to lay down for us, and they fought to the end."

Curtis Jerrells paced Baylor in scoring with 23 points, while Rogers contributed 20.

The Bears (12-11, 2-8 Big 12) opened the second half on a 12-4 run and went ahead 39-32 with just under 18 minutes remaining. But the Sooners responded with 10 straight points and retook the lead 42-39 at the 15:51 mark.

Oklahoma never trailed again and extended its winning streak over Baylor to 26 games, dating back to 1977.

Baylor's Aaron Bruce sprained his right ankle after missing a running jumper with just over 12 minutes left to play. Bruce retired to the dressing room and did not return to the game.
