Paris scored 19 points and pulled down 18 rebounds in 21 minutes, and Oklahoma shook off a ragged start to beat Henderson State 110-40 Thursday night in its first of two exhibition games.
Paris, a 53 percent free-throw shooter in her first two seasons, went 7-for-8 from the foul line with a handful that hit nothing but net on the way down. Last season, she had four games with at least seven free throws, but just as many with seven misses.
"We did some good stuff," OU head coach Sherri Coale said, "and we did some not so good stuff. After a while, it got hard to tell. We had a lot of guys contribute, so that's important.
"Offensively," Coale admitted, "I probably pushed us into a few of those turnovers in the second half because I didn' t want us taking the first open shot that we could get every time on the floor.
"We thought about competing on every piece of every possession, particularly defensively. We wanted to put a little pressure on the ball and challenge the passing lanes a little more. I thought we did that here and there, but we didn't do it with a sense of consistency."
The Sooners shook off some early jitters in the first few minutes and outscored the Lady Reddies 45-3 during one first-half stretch.
Several newcomers fit into the mix nicely for Oklahoma, which lost six seniors from last year's team that repeated as the Big 12 tournament champions.
Freshman Danielle Robinson was dazzling at times in an 18-point performance, and Jenny Vining showed potential as an outside threat by making four 3-pointers for 12 points. Sophomore Rose Hammond scored 14 off the bench, and Nyeshia Stevenson started and scored 12. Freshman Carlee Roethlisberger, the sister of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, added 10.
"I thought our freshman were really terrific and I expected that," Coale said. "They were practicing very, very well everyday. Danielle (Robinson) has some `wow' kind of speed, so I think that got everyone excited and it kind of gives us another dimension.
"You saw with Carlee (Roethlisberger) and Jenny (Vining) that they both have a nice skill set, that they're both learners and that they're getting better defensively. It was nice to be able to get everyone on the field and look at all the different kinds of combinations."
Jazmine Ellis scored 19 points on 4-for-18 shooting for Henderson State, which brought in six freshmen and five transfers this season to fill their depleted roster.
Oklahoma has won its past 16 exhibition games.
