MADISON, Wis. The Oklahoma volleyball team pushed its record to 3-2 with a sweep of Oregon State Saturday morning at the InnTowner Invitational in Madison, Wis.  Oklahoma rallied back in game one and dominated the final two frames to beat the Beavers (1-5) 30-27, 30-16, 30-16.

“Our hitters made the difference today,” head coach Santiago Restrepo said.  “We need all of them to be consistent every match in order for us to be successful.”

Wisconsin native Joanna Schmitt continued to impress in front of her hometown crowd as she pounded a match-best 17 kills on a .267 clip.  The senior outside hitter has recorded double-digit kills in every match this season.

Fellow senior Laura Tomes was very consistent with her .565 hitting percentage while she also guided the offense with 14 kills.

Behind the steady passing of setter Rachel Jackson, who recorded 46 assists, the Sooners posted a .361 overall team hitting percentage, their season-best.

“Our passing was much-improved in this match and that is what made our hitters so successful today,” Restrepo said.

Libero Anna Monsen, another Wisconsin native, also impressed her hometown crowd as she led the defense with a season-high 22 digs.

After trailing by as many as five points, OU rallied to take the first game from the Beavers, 30-27.  OU took its first lead of the game at 23-22 after a kill by Schmitt.  Oregon State wouldn't back down as it tied the match up at 25-25, but OU responded as it took the final two points after two straight kills by Tomes.

The Sooners carried their momentum into game two and dominated the Beavers, 30-16.  OU took the opening lead and never looked back as the OSU would only tie it up once at 1-1.  The Beavers couldn't contain the Sooner offense as OU recorded a .394 clip in the second frame.

It was more of the same in the third frame as OU took the game and the match with a 30-16 advantage.  OU's Sarah Wieland led off the game with a kill and two straight kills from Schmitt ended the match.  Oregon State tied it up twice, but could never take the lead.

The Sooners will wrap up InnTowner Invitational action Saturday night as they take on South Dakota State at 5 p.m.
