NORMAN, Okla. -- The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) announced on Tuesday that University of Oklahoma senior Eliane Santos was selected as the CVU.com National Player of the Week for Nov. 27 through Dec. 3.
A 6-2 middle blocker from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Santo paced the Sooners in a pair of NCAA tournament victories, leading them to the NCAA Regional in Honolulu. In the first round against Oral Roberts, the senior led the No. 13 seed Sooners on both sides of the net, tallying a team-high 12 kills while hitting at a .476 clip. Defensively, Santos put back 10 total blocks a solo and nine assists in the sweep.
The second round went just as smoothly for Oklahoma and Santos, as she again led the way both offensively and defensively. In sweeping past Missouri State, Santos slammed a match-high 16 kills, committing only one error on 20 swings to hit a scorching .750. She also added seven more blocks, this time a pair of solos and five block assists.
For the week, Santos averaged 4.66 kills per game while hitting .610. She also averaged 2.83 blocks per game, and had five total digs.
Oklahoma (28-5) begins play in the Sweet 16 on Friday, Dec. 8 at 8:30 p.m. against UCLA in Honolulu, Hawai'i. The Sooners are making their first appearance in the round since 1988.
