NORMAN, Okla.   In its first conference match of the season, the Oklahoma volleyball team suffered a loss (0-3) to No. 22 Kansas State inside the Howard McCasland Field House Wednesday night.  The Wildcats, who are the second ranked team the Sooners have faced in a week, swept the Sooners, 30-22, 30-28 and 30-26.

The Sooners, who haven't beaten a ranked team since 1998, fell to 0-1 in league play and 5-4 overall.  Kansas State pushed its record to 9-1 and 1-0 in the Big 12 while head coach Suzie Fritz collected her 100th career win.

“I thought it was a competitive match, a lot more competitive than last year's match,” head coach Santiago Restrepo said.  “We have to find a way to close games.  It's the same thing that we did against (ranked) Notre Dame last week, didn't finish.”

Oklahoma struggled offensively against Kansas State, tallying a .064 hitting percentage and 31 errors in three games while K-State hit at a .265 clip for the match.  Defensively, the Sooners totaled six blocks to the Wildcats' 12.

OU junior Eliane Santos was the leader of the Oklahoma offense for the fifth straight match.  The transfer from the College of Southern Idaho recorded a match-high 14 kills while leading the Sooners in hitting percentage with a .233 clip.  Santos was the only Sooner to hit above .100 on the night.  Santos first entered the OU lineup a week ago and has pounded double-digit kills in all five matches since.

Following Santos in kills was sophomore Sarah Weiland who tallied eight kills while adding two aces.

After missing the last five matches due to an ankle injury, preseason All-Big 12 selection Joanna Schmitt made an appearance in the starting lineup at defensive specialist.  The junior, who is usually a starter at outside hitter and leads the team in kills per game, collected five digs.

For only the second time this season, the Sooners did not have any players in double-digit digs.  Setter Rachel Jackson and Santos led the Sooners with six digs a piece while sophomore Hannah Sharp with five.

At the net, Santos tallied three block assists and Jackson posted two block assists and one solo.  Sophomore Anna Stadel added a block assist and a solo.

Oklahoma will look to rally back when it heads to Kansas (9-1) for a 1 p.m. Saturday match up in Lawrence, Kan.  The Jayhawks are coming off their first Big 12 win with a sweep of No. 15 Texas A&M Wednesday night.
