TULSA, Okla. Junior Marek Velicka competed in the first round of the main singles draw at the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships in Tulsa on Thursday.
Velicka faced Illinois' Ryler DeHeart, the No. 1 seed in the tournament. Velicka dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision in straight sets.
Seniors Tommy Garrison and Alexei Ivanov appeared in the tournament earlier in the week in the qualifying singles event. Ivanov was eliminated in the first round, while Garrison advanced to the third round and was one victory shy of advancing to the main draw.
Two doubles teams competed for Oklahoma in the qualifying doubles event. Garrison and senior Matt Long lost in the first round, while Ivanov and sophomore Federico Chavarria earned a bye in the first round but lost their match of the second round.
Oklahoma will return to action Oct. 20-24 at the Wilson/ITA Regional Championships, which will be held in Tulsa.
