The tenth ranked Oklahoma wrestling team fell to second ranked Nebraska, 25-12, Friday night at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Track in Lincoln, Nebraska.  The loss puts the Sooners record at 14-7 and 0-5 in the Big 12 Conference and snapped a five-match dual wining streak over Nebraska.

The Sooners picked up three wins against Nebraska with the highlight match coming from senior Leonce Crump who recorded his 100th career win.  The win puts Crump's overall career record at 100-17.

“The loss is disappointing,” Oklahoma head coach Jack Spates said.  “There were a lot of bright spots tonight, but we came in short handed without Teyon and E.K.”

The last win of the night for the Sooners came at heavyweight when fourth ranked Crump past the century mark with a decision over tenth ranked Nathan McCain, 7-3.

“Leonce dominated the match,” Spates said.  “He was not supposed to be anything coming into OU, but he has won two Big 12 Championships, been an All-American and has a chance to be a national champion.  I am proud of him and all he has accomplished.”

Another win for the Sooners came from freshman Justin Dyer.  Eighth ranked Dyer recorded an amazing upset of third ranked Travis Pascoe.  Dyer pinned Pascoe at the 5:49 mark.

The only other win for Oklahoma came from freshman Jeff Ecklof.  Ninth ranked Ecklof got the upset by decision, 11-8, over fourth ranked Travis Shufelt.  The match was close throughout, with almost two minutes remaining in the third period the score was 11-7.  Ecklof held on after giving up a stalling point to win the match, 11-8.

“There were outstanding performances by Jeff Ecklof and Justin Dyer,” Spates said.  “Ecklof beat the fourth ranked wrestler and Dyer beat the third ranked.”

Sophomore Teyon Ware and junior E.K. Waldhaus both are nursing injuries which kept them out of competition.  Ware still has a high ankle sprain he hurt at the All-Star Classic and Waldhaus also has an ankle injury.

“It was a tough decision to hold out Teyon and E.K.,” Spates said.  “It came down to a possible dual win or health and a better showing at Big 12 and Nationals.”

Oklahoma will remain on the road to finish the regular season at Missouri on Sunday at 12 p.m.
